Commercial Repairs

Before – Ink marks, wear, UV fading, cuts and slices. The Tuffett sits in the main lobby of the Battlehouse Hotel in Mobile, AL beneath a Tiffany glass dome ceiling 50’ above the floor. The unit weighs over 900# and is solidly constructed from plywood with upholstered leather in eight (8) individual sections. The age of the unit is somewhere between 7-10 years. The goal was to match the color of the two sofas in the background. I planned on a mix of 3 Cherry / 1 Red Orange. This unit is moved around on dolly’s 3-4 times each year – Christmas, Mardi Gras, Major events, weddings etc.

During Day One Repairs – Almost all of the ink pen marks could not be removed 100%, hence I applied blot-out. Bubble gum was not an issue as I removed all found in the cracks and crevices. There were also a half dozen areas with cuts, abrasions and tears that required repairs. Had to rough sand the many abrasions and surface cuts. Was able to seal with a combination of FCA, leather filler and vinyl cure. The upper cone is upholstered with a fabric material and attached in a puffed format. The unit is about 7-10 years old, solidly constructed and very difficult to move. It took 6 men just to up-right it off the transport dolly’s.

Day Two Prep for Re-dyeing & Top Coating – The unit was totally assembled hence the difficulty in getting into the cracks and crevices. The loading dock was a break area for the employees who smoked and chatted and observed Fibrenew at work. The associated heaters / blowers on the dock had to be shutoff during the re-dyeing and top coating process due to air born particles.

After – The repair was performed on their loading / receiving dock. The project was a two (2) day effort with day one being 4 hours of cleaning, repairs and prepping. The last day was 5 hours and involved the HVLP application of the dye (red orange 95%-100%) and a 90% glossy top coat. The aim was to match the color of two (2) leather sofas and adjoining chairs in the main lobby.
